Women’s History Month 2021: An Event by the U.S. Embassy in Malawi

We are still in March and it’s the month where we celebrate international women’s day. The embassy of the United States of America in Malawi is organizing a Black Women’s Empowerment in the U.S and Africa event on the18th of March 2021. I am very excited to be part of this event and this important discussion, alongside some great and inspiring women where key issues about women of color in leadership will be discussed and shared.

The following is verbatim of what the event is about as described on the embassy’s Facebook page.

Every year in March the U.S. celebrates Women’s History Month. To celebrate and honor Black women who continue to do amazing things in our world, the U.S. Embassy invites you to the above titled virtual event to take place on Thursday, March 18 from 2pm to 4pm.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Erin H. Moore who will discuss how Black female leadership throughout the African Diaspora was critical in forging methods of resistance and rebellion to the various forms of oppression faced by Black people. In addition, she will highlight how sexism has been a particular problem faced by Black women, and what strategies can be adopted to overcome it. The interactive presentation will be followed by a panel discussion including Malawian guest speakers from various sectors.

You can join this event using Facebook live from the Facebook page of the embassy or you can join through the zoom link publicly provided by the embassy. I will share my key takeaways from this discussion and some key next steps.
