I’m Dr. Angella Faith Montfaucon (née Lapukeni), a Malawian economist and Senior Economist at the Economic Policy Global Department in the Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank. I joined the Bank in 2019 through the Young Professionals Program and have since worked across multiple regions, including East Asia and the Pacific. Prior to this, I served as a senior fiscal analyst at the Reserve Bank of Malawi, focusing on fiscal operations and analysis.
My work is driven by a deep interest in international trade, economic growth, public finance, and financial development. Over the years, I’ve contributed to economic policy and development strategies in countries such as Indonesia, Fiji, Vanuatu, and the Philippines. Currently, I serve as the Senior Country Economist for Albania, where I lead macroeconomic monitoring and fiscal policy dialogue, while supporting the integration of structural, sectoral, and climate considerations into national economic strategies.
I hold a Ph.D. in Economics from Yokohama National University in Japan and an MA in Economic Policy Management from the University of Zambia. My research has been published in leading academic journals, which you can explore under the Research tab. I remain committed to producing work that informs policy and supports inclusive, sustainable development.
